It all started with the initiative of few responsible mothers who wanted to make a difference.

Before 1990 there were very few special schools in Hyderabad for intellectually Challenged. The existing schools could not cater the needs of many Intellectually Challenged. The services to train an Intellectually Challenged child are very expensive and not with in the reach of a common man. Motivated with all these and also with the personal experience of few members, a group of 13 lecturers from Raja Bahadur Venket Rama Reddy Women's College, Narayanaguda, have planned to establish a charitable, non-profit & non-commercial organization for the welfare & integration of Intellectually Challenged by contributing some of their savings and effort. They are supported by their family members and friends.

The members met on 19 th February 1991 and decided to register the association with the name “MANASA“

The word Manasa is taken from the sacred lake “MANASA SAROVAR” in Himalayas which is well known for its purity and serene atmosphere. It has divine power that purifies the mind and enhances the mental and spiritual powers according to many believers.

Consequently The Association was registered on 26/2/1991 under A.P.Public Societies Registration Act 1350F with the following Founder Members

Few Achievements :

• Donations to MANASA are exempted from Income Tax u/s 80G since 1991
• Grant In Aid from Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India from 1995 till 2002
• Acquisition of 16-seater Matador van in June 1998 by taking a loan of Rs.3 lakhs from State Bank of India, Narayanaguda under Community Service Banking.
• Repayment of the entire loan within 20 months against a stipulated period of 60 months.
• The children participated successfully in the National Olympics / State / District Olympics and bagged several Gold, Silver, Bronze medals & certificates
• Received a donation of Rs.5 lakhs by State Bank of India, Zonal office, Secunderabad and purchased 21-seater SWARAJ MAZDA van for the transportation of the children.
• Received 8 seater Maruthi Omni van costing Rs. 2.65 lakhs from Hyderabad 10K Run Foundation.
• Received a GRANT of Rs. 3 lakhs from M/S GAIL for the maintenance of MANASA School Under CSR Program for the year 2007-2008
• The GOVT. of A.P.has allotted 8 guntas for nominal rates at Kothapet, Hyderabad for construction of a Permanent Building for Manasa School

Learn about Mental Disabilities

Mental Retardation is a delay or slowness in a child's mental development. The child with mental retardation learns things more slowly than other children of the same age. He finds it difficult to remember, to understand, and adjust to different situations. He does not develop intellectually or even physically at the same rate as the other children of the same age.

Many of these children will also have associated deficits like speech, hearing, cerebral palsy, autism, down syndrome etc.

But, if given suitable and timely training many of them may learn to take care of their basic needs like drinking, eating, bathing, dressing etc. however, there will be some children who will always need to be cared for in some way.
